Allergies and Immune Support with OPC
Allergy sufferers usually have few options that do not produce unwanted side-effects when treating allergy symptoms. Primary Source OPC offers a natural and safe means to address these unwanted auto-immune responses. OPC can be used in two ways to support the immune system. On a short term basis, it can be taken in a single, strong dose (500mg) to relieve a temporary allergic reaction. For long term improvement in the immune system, a lower dose of perhaps 200 mg will help build the body's immune system. The reason for this is its anti-histamine property.
Histamine is contained in the lysosome of cells. When destructive enzymes attack the cell's lysosome, the release of histamine can occur. Primary Source
® OPC prevents the release of histamine by forming a barrier around cell membranes to block the entry of destructive enzymes onto the cell's lysosome.

OPC and Histamine Due to Allergies
OPC inhibits the release of histamine, which produces accelerated blood flow, dilates capillaries and increases their permeability, thereby leaking plasma into surrounding tissue. Histamine is a key factor in the promotion of inflammation and allergies, and is associated with eruptive diseases of the skin, irritations of the nose and air passages, rheumatism and stomach ulcers. A common pharmaceutical approach to the control of inflammatory diseases involves the administration of antihistamines. But these drugs produce undesirable side effects. OPC, a natural antihistamine, acts as an anti-inflammatory and anti-allergy agent, without side effects.
In a study of 18 hospitalized patients given intradermal injections of histamine, daily doses of Dr. Masquelier's OPC decreased capillary permeability and inhibited plasma from leaking into tissue. Further fighting the release of histamine, OPC blocks the enzyme histidine decarboxylase, which is the agent that transforms histidine, an amino acid, into histamine.
Working in the body in additional ways to protect against edema and inflammation, OPC inhibits the destructive enzyme hyaluronidase, thereby interrupting membrane leakage and anaphylactic effects. Hyaluronidase, also known as spreading factor, is found in the testes, sperm and some organs, as well as in leeches and in spider and snake venom, and is also produced by certain pathogenic bacteria. It catalyzes the breakdown of tissue, enabling these agents to spread more effectively throughout a host body. Anaphylaxis is an exaggerated allergic reaction to the introduction of foreign proteins or other substances. The cellular havoc and anaphylaxis wrought by hyaluronidase is kept in check by OPC-a valuable therapeutic effect.
